As parents, grandparents, coworkers, neighbors and friends, we all know children who attend school in Scott County School District 2 (SCSD2). We had the opportunity recently to host SCSD2 administrators and staff at MASPark for a strategic planning session, and we were blown away by the many incredible accomplishments taking place at our local schools. When it comes to education in Scott County – from academics to athletics to community involvement – we have a lot to be proud of. Here are a few of the reasons why…
- After 30 years of being without a football team, the SCSD2 Board of Education voted to bring football back to Scott County High School. More than 60 students have started conditioning and preparing for the fall season. Sign-ups will continue through the summer.
- Scottsburg Middle School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Program for 2013 to 2015 for its 1:1 Digital Teaching and Learning Initiative. The designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and that demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments. Students and teachers at Scottsburg Middle School use both iPads and MacBooks to enhance the learning environment.
- The Indiana Department of Education has awarded SCSD2 an Innovation Planning Grant for three consecutive years: 2011, 2012 and 2013. The grant recognizes SCSD2’s commitment to implementing digital learning in a 1:1 setting.
- In just four years, Scottsburg New Tech High School has grown to more than 150 students. Aside from growing in size, the school has also grown in culture and community involvement. New Tech gives students opportunities to continue their education after high school and find opportunities in desired career paths.
- There are 100+ dual credit opportunities in SCSD2 high schools such as advanced manufacturing, EMT and welding courses. Partnerships with businesses and colleges give students a head start and shapes the generation that will be the future of Scott County.
- SCSD2 has had a state academic team champion for three straight years in English, science and social studies.
