Get trained in welding and earn an American Welding Society (AWS) certificate this spring at the Mid-America Science Park in Scottsburg. There are many exciting career opportunities in welding, and welders are in high demand with local employers. Due to the increased demand for welding skills, you may qualify for free training.
This program prepares the student for certification in Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc (GMAW) or Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW) welding processes through study of the welding procedure and standards established by the AWS. Typically, students complete the 1G AWS Certification. Depending on your skill, you may also take the 3G AWS Certification.
WHO: The welding course at the Mid-America Science Park will provide the training you need to become an entry welder. The spring evening course is for:
- Anyone interested in welding, with or without a high school diploma;
- Anyone interested in a possible career change; and
- Those who are currently employed and have employers willing to sponsor welding training.
WHY: Employers are looking to hire people with welding skills. With an AWS certification, you could earn $36,000+ per year as an Entry Welder!
WHEN: March 14 to May 19, 2016, Mondays and Thursdays, 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
