The addition of the Ivy Tech Welding Institute at the Mid-America Science Park is already getting a lot of positive attention. Not only are classes in full swing, but Lt. Gov. Ellspermann also recently visited Scott County to tour the new training facility.
Ellspermann’s visit was followed by an open house which attracted approximately 150 people from the region, including Ivy Tech President Tom Snyder. President Snyder complemented Mayor Bill Graham’s vision for the Welding Institute and referred to MASPark as a “jewel” and a partnership they can promote across the state.

Ivy Tech’s Welding Institute is a 40-week program that includes instruction and lab activities. Unique to the program is a virtual welding system, offering a hands-on training experience. The virtual system allows students to complete more passes than traditional training, provides real-time welding technique feedback to both trainers and students and conserves resources and materials.
The Scott County Economic Development Corporation and the City of Scottsburg partnered with Ivy Tech Corporate College to provide the Welding Institute at MASPark. A wide spectrum of training opportunities are available for companies, employees and students.
