The Mid-America Science Park (MASPark) and Ivy Tech Community College will host an Open House at MASPark on Saturday, July 19, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend to learn more about dual credit opportunities for high school students, training certificates and college credit courses that are available to local residents, and the opportunity to talk with Ivy Tech Community College instructors and counselors.
Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus will be offering numerous classes and training opportunities for local and regional residents at MASPark in Scottsburg this fall:
- Academic Courses – These courses span a wide variety of topics and include Algebra, English Composition, Agriculture, Business, History, Industrial Maintenance, Integrated Reading and Writing, Mathematics, and Public Speaking. The fall semester begins August 25. Specific courses and dates can be found by accessing Ivy Tech’s interactive class schedule at www.ivytech.edu/columbus.
Welding Institute – The Welding Institute, a 40-week training program, was developed by the American Welding Institute Society (AWS) to prepare successful professional welders. Trainees will be trained in MIG, TIG, pipe and tube welding, and earn several nationally recognized welding certifications from AWS and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In addition to the Welding Institute, several other specific welding courses will be offered.
- Advanced Manufacturing – This training focuses on specific company and employee training needs. The classes are taught using an Open Entry/Open Exit (OE2) training program for regional manufacturing workers. OE2 gives employers the ability to customize content to meet their own particular training needs, with the flexibility to adapt the curriculum to match each employee’s experience level.
- Dual Credit Courses – High school students from Scott County School Districts 1 and 2 now have an opportunity to take introductory welding and advanced manufacturing dual credit courses at MASP. The Open House will allow students and parents to see the new welding facility and opportunity to try out the virtual welding trainer and robotic welder that will be used in the welding instruction.
- Adult Education – The Scott County Economic Development Corporation manages one of the top adult education programs in the state, helping to improve workforce quality in Southern Indiana. The open house will provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about the program and how to assist people who need to obtain a high school equivalent diploma.
Residents of Scott County are encouraged to participate in the MASPark Open House to view and experience the world-class training facility that is available to students, employed and unemployed workers, businesses, and residents wanting to increase their training and education.
