Dear Community Leaders and Friends:
You are cordially invited to attend the Region 10 (Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, and Washington counties) Adult Education/High School Equivalency graduation ceremony on August 7, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., in the Jeffersonville High School Auditorium, 2315 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville, Indiana.
A reception, sponsored by the New Albany Altrusa Club and Ivy Tech Community College, will be held in the school cafeteria immediately following the ceremony.
The mission of the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), Division of Adult Education, is to ensure delivery of foundational skills development, career pathways, and academic and career counseling services to adults and out-of-school youth for the purposes of employment, reemployment, or enhanced employment. This includes preparing adults without a high school diploma to take the HSE test.
Earning a High School Equivalency (HSE) is a rewarding accomplishment that will benefit these adults for the rest of their lives and will greatly impact the economic development of our region, as more people will be qualified for the workforce. They now have many new options opened up for them such as continuing with post-secondary education, skills training, WorkINdiana certification programs, finding new employment, maintaining their current employment, or gaining the ability to move forward on a career pathway.
As of today, 320 Adult Education students in Region 10 have earned their High School Equivalency Diploma since July 1, 2014, and results from year-end testing are still in process. Adult education receives performance-based funding, and Region 10 continues to be a leader in the state in adult education performance measures.
Our success is due to many factors, such as motivated adult students, caring and qualified teachers and administrators, online learning tools and assessments, targeted professional development, expert fiscal management (The Scott County Economic Development Corporation), and strong community partnerships with organizations and businesses who see the value in raising the level of educational attainment of our citizens and workforce.
We hope you will join us as we celebrate with these adults and hear a few of their success stories. Most of them have overcome great obstacles in their lives to reach this accomplishment, which is one positive step toward a more successful life for them and for their families.
We will have a special section for our special guests down near the stage, so if you come, please sit there where we can easily introduce you to our audience.
Sincerely,
Beth Pattison & Angela Kirlin
