SCOTTSBURG, Ind.— Samtec, Inc. today announced that the company will be consolidating operations by relocating two of their existing manufacturing facilities to Scottsburg, Ind. The global company plans to break ground on a 70,000-square-foot facility in September or October 2014.
Samtec, headquartered in New Albany, Ind., will open its new manufacturing facility by mid-year 2015 in Scottsburg’s Certified Technology Park District adjacent to the Mid-America Science Park (MASPark). The move will relocate approximately 300 new jobs to Scottsburg.
“The new facility will help us streamline operations in Southern Indiana and provide greater efficiencies in distribution and logistics,” said Keith Baumann, global facilities manager for Samtec. “Scottsburg has numerous economic amenities that align with our global growth initiatives as a service and quality leader.”
Samtec is a privately-held, $565 million global manufacturer of electronic interconnects. The company was founded in 1976 and employs approximately 4,000 people worldwide.

The company chose to locate next to the science park to leverage MASPark’s Industrial Training Center for Advanced Manufacturing and virtual capabilities through the Worldwide Communications & Conference Center. Samtec’s new facility will be connected by a walkway to MASPark. The property will be owned by a Grover Stacy Company and construction will be managed by Koetter Construction.

Scottsburg’s Certified Technology Park District was designated in 2004 as part of Mayor Graham’s and the City of Scottsburg’s long-term vision for creating high-paying job opportunities in Scott County. The Samtec consolidation is the result of a collaborative effort by the Scottsburg City Council, the Scottsburg Redevelopment Commission, the Scott County Economic Development Corporation and the Mid-America Science Park.
An educational and training partnership between Scott County School Districts 1 and 2, Ivy Tech Community College, and MASPark’s training center will help ensure that Samtec has access to a skilled workforce. The new facility is also expected to attract entrepreneurs and new businesses to Scott County.
